An Adventure in Paradise

Do you want to be close up and personal with an exciting new event in the Whitsundays?

CAN YOU GIVE SOME TIME TO HELP THE RALLY AND SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY?

Rally Whitsundays (Round 1 of the 2019 P3 Solutions CAMS Queensland Rally Championship) will be held on 4 May 2019, which is only weeks away and we urgently need more volunteers to make the event happen smoothly and safely.

The Rally has a Ceremonial Start at Abell Point Marina on Friday evening 3 May and gets underway from there at 7.30am on Saturday 4 May 2019.  It will finish in Bowen around 6.00pm.  Competitive Special Stages are located in the Proserpine and Bowen areas and we have the Service Park in the Proserpine Showgrounds.

We still need more volunteers to help us in roles that require neither previous rally experience nor special qualifications, but will give you an enjoyable experience for individuals or family groups from local sports clubs, youth groups, community groups, businesses or 4WD clubs.

One important role where you can help is being one of our “road block teams” which monitor the side roads that are closed during the rally to prevent unauthorised access onto the rally route during competition. These road blocks are safe and easy to get to but will give you a “personal spectator point” that is not available to the public.  You will be briefed on what you have to do and how long you will be in place.

We need about 12 of these teams in the Proserpine area and 3 teams on a rally stage outside of Bowen, so there are plenty of opportunities and locations for a couple of mates or a small family group to take a “pop-up” shelter, a picnic basket of goodies and non-alcoholic drinks and drive over good quality gravel roads to a great place to enjoy the day. There are kid friendly locations too if you would like to bring the kids to make it a family event. If you have your own car and want to do something absolutely different, ask yourself:

  1. Can I be available to help from 5.00 am to about 2.30 pm on Saturday 4 May 2019 as a road block team on stages within the Proserpine area; or
  2. Can I be available to help from 11.00 am to 6.30 pm on Saturday 4 May 2019 as a road block team in the Bowen area.
  • Can I attend a one hour briefing session at Mantra Club Croc, Cannonvale on Thursday 2 May 2019 at 6.00pm, where you will be hear details of what you have to do and be given your road block team pack with instructions, paperwork and hi-vis vests as well as details of where to meet the rest of the stage team.  You will also meet your stage team leader and other members of that stage team. Register here for training.

This is an ideal opportunity for clubs and groups to be part of the Rally.

We will acknowledge your valuable support by;

  • Displaying your business / club signage at one of the events over the weekend
  • Your business / club will be mentioned in the Road Marshall Listing in the newspaper
  • A special mention on facebook about your business / club
  • Your logo displayed on our website under Road Marshalls
